Box card birthday

Today I have another box card, another birthday box card, which I just realized makes it eligible for the current MFT Out of the Box Birthday challenge! You can still play too if you'd like to join. Ends April 21.

I knew I wanted to use the Hangin With My Gnomies set in some way but wasn't sure at first how to make my idea work. I would have liked him to be more up in the air (and will do some adjusting for next time to accomplish this) but with the height of the card to still fit into the envelope I was restricted. I do like him hanging onto the balloons for dear life though. LOL
Sentiment is a mix from MFT Sending Smooches (happy) and Concord & 9th, All the Birthdays (birthday).
The large mushrooms are from the Spring Gnomies stamp set by Simon Says Stamp.
For the perfect sized cupcake to fit on the stool (from the Mice Day to Celebrate, MFT), I used this cupcake from the Lawn Fawn, Baked With Love stamp set.
Folds flat for mailing in a standard A2 size envelope. No extra postage required for one ounce and less than 1/4 inch thick. (Sometimes I get a little carried away with all the additions and add a stamp to be sure in case it doesn't fit through the postage machines!).
Copic colors for this one. Her favorite color is green.

3D mini slimline card

I discovered this super cute dimensional mini slimline card design instructional video yesterday and had to make one. I love how simple it is but really impactful. This size might be my most favorite card of the moment!

When I finished, I was filled with all kinds of new ideas for the next one(s) and can't wait to get started on more of these.

See how simple? No foam tape whatsoever on this design, yet it pops up enough to really give it dimension! And when you tuck little goodies inside the windows, it seems even more 3D. Yet, it squishes flat when you put it in a mailing envelope. Cool beans!
Pretty amazing what a simple little Z-fold can do for your design.

These jumbo bees are by Honey Bee Stamps, coincidentally LOL. I've used a huge variety of stamps for this card (see list below) from several companies. I think they all worked well together for my idea.

My Favorite Things, Box Card Birthday challenge

This is for one of the grandboys who I'm still in disbelief will be driving age in a couple of weeks. (and I'm still not over the fact that my scrapping buddy, Grace, who started scrapping with me when she was 3, turned 20 last month!!) Anyway, he loves camping so the Adorable Adventure stamp set fit the bill perfectly for this boy card.

MFT Sketch #534

This week's My Favorite Things sketch is another slimline design. I used this new gnome set from Simon Says Stamp for my card. I think the muted colors make him more authentically gnome-ish and straight out of the forest. I envisioned Kevin Costner's version of Robin Hood when I was choosing colors. Seems to have worked! :)

Adorable little gnomie. Sentiment by Honey Bee Stamps.
I loved coloring these mushrooms.

Latest box card - Girls Night In

It's Facetime, Whatsapp, Zoom or if you're old like me, maybe Skype still works (I have no idea, honestly, LOL) but whatever method you use, it's Girls' Night at a distance when you live 1200 miles apart. Having been in lockdown and unable to spend the winter in our San Diego locale this past year, my sister and I are both suffering from no Yahtzee and mimosas for breakfast, and I can't wait to get back down to see her again. Hopefully, very soon as we'll have our vaccines, but I digress.....

I think this is the first time making a box card for my sister. I know she'll love the details, though I'm bummed I no longer have a dice stamp for a Yahtzee reference. I added a string of 'lights' to make it a real party though! That's me on the screen with my short hair, glasses and fruity drink. The martini is for her. LOL

As always, folds flat for mailing.

MFT Slimline Challenge, Inside Out

Fun challenge, and let me say challenge! I had to do some innovating and improvisation for this one as the slimline card is 7 inches and the Big Shot accommodates only 6 inches. But, I figured it out and I am pleased with how this adorable card turned out. I think the grands will like it. :)

To cut the windows from the front of the card, I had to fold the back over the top after placing the dies. Because of all the layers, I had to go with a lighter weight cardstock. This works ok, except that it leaves the impression of the die on the backside of the card. That was what I was trying to avoid, but there is no way to do it without this side effect.

Then, separately, I cut the windows from the front panel so they'd line up with the windows I cut from the front of the card. Using panels on the front and the inside helps beef up the card too, since I had to use lighter cardstock than I usually do for cards.

I wanted just the ears to show through the window, so I lined up the gnomes first, then built the rest of the scene around them, all on a separate panel.

I made the basket so that the carrots can be removed, just for fun.
The little gnomies are so adorable, I wanted to show each one. When I showed the card to the Randster he called them trolls!!! GASP I corrected him and he said, "well, I don't 'gnome' them". LOL

Copic colors I used on this card.
