Pure Joy

Joy comes in so many forms, doesn't it. Today it comes in the form of my altered Christmas ornaments-turned holiday banner. These glittery star ornaments came in a box of a dozen which I got on clearance last year for 50 whole cents!   For 4¢ per star, I couldn't possibly pass them up. Plus, the gorgeous brownish/bronzish color goes with my living room color scheme. Double score!

I made this for a challenge at A Cherry on Top - My Mind's Eye manufacturer challenge. I used the MME Lost and Found Christmas for my project. One of my all time fave Christmas lines. I'm not a traditional bright red and bright green Christmas color person. Never have been. But these darker hues and muted burgundy and olive shades of red and green make me feel cozy....like a vintage Christmas.

So many details on each piece, I had a blast adding one more thing, one more thing, and then one more. The product list is extensive but it didn't take as long as it might seem and was not at all a difficult project. I think what took the longest was preparing and cutting the letters with my cricut!

I won't go into every single detail but if you have specific questions please comment and I'll address each one. The letters are from the Fontopia cartridge.

The roses I made using the My Creative Time flower die; the other flowers are Petaloo and Prima.

Challenge Host, Veronica

Welcome to another new feature with the My Creative Time Design Team.
Every other Thursday, one of the design team members will host a new challenge. This time our host is Veronica and she has challenged us to RECYCLE -- use something in a new way or something you might throw away. Squeeee! As many of you know, this is one of my most favorite types of challenges. So let's get to it, shall we??

Today I did two projects. A super cute fall tree made from a lunch sack and these cute back to school treat containers from paper towels rolls. You can do this with toilet paper rolls or gift wrap rolls too if you want different sizes. I cut off about 3 inches for these.

The haunted tree...cute huh! I saw this idea on pintrest. Super simple and an easy one for the kids too! Here's the link for the super simple instructions. I used lots of leaves in fall colors to show off the tree and my back to school themed project.

The tree looks like it has dreads, doesn't it!? LOL

I've seen this pencil idea before and thought, how cute, I could do that. So I set to work. I didn't use any tutorial for this, I flew by the seat of my pants. There might be some tips on doing it easier than I did, but I'm satisfied with the finished product and since they are filled with candies and other goodies, the grands will love them too I'm sure.
Here's my version.
For each pencil box you will need the following:
Cut 1 piece of yellow cardstock to fit the length of the tube you're using and long enough to wrap around the tube with overlap for gluing.
Cut 1 piece of pink cardstock the length of the yellow paper and about 2 inches wide.
Cut 1 piece of metallic paper the length of the yellow paper and about 1/2 inch wide.
Cut 1 tan and 1 pink circle about 2 1/2 inches {I forgot the large pink one so it's not shown in the photo}
Cut 1 pink circle about 1 3/4 inches
Cut 1 brown circle about 3/4 inch wide, for the lead

Adhere the gold strip to the yellow cardstock, then adhere the pink strip and trim the edges if necessary.

Cut the large tan circle to the center and roll in a cone shape the size of the tube and secure. Cut the small brown circle to the center and form a tiny cone that will fit the end of the large tan cone and secure it to the tan cone.

Apply glue to the inside top of the tube as close to the end as you can.....

....and fit the cone inside so it's in the glue and let dry.

Cut the large pink circle to the center and roll in a cone shape the size of the tube and secure it closed. Glue the smaller pink circle inside the open end of the cone for the flat end of the pencil eraser. NOTE: Fill your tube with candy corn, peanuts, pencils, or other goodies at this point. When you have filled the tube, adhere the pink cone to the end but this time the point of the cone will go to the INSIDE of the tube with the small pink circle as the top of the eraser/flat end of the tube.

Add a tag if you wish. :)

Thanks for coming by today. If I have left out any steps or you need clarification on something, please comment and I'll get back to you as soon as I can! We hope you'll join us for this new challenge feature and link up on Emma's blog to be entered in the drawing. Show us what you can do with TRASH!

My camping girls

My girls love to camp. My family didn't ever go camping when I was a kid. I sure enjoyed it when Randy and I would take the kids when they were growing up. I'm so glad we took them when they were kids, because now they take their own kids!

Cyndi and Grace at Staircase in the Olympic National Forest last September.

To make my journaling block I used a portion of the MCT tri-fold card die and the super versatile mini letter stamps from the Just Simply Live stamp set. Leaf die and journaling lines are also by MCT.

Normal is boring!

What IS normal anyway?! Does anyone really know? - yeah, rhetorical! LOL My normal is pretty weird and I'm happy about that. Life is too short to take things so seriously, am I right! Today's card is an entry for the newest Ink It Pink Challenge at Pink By Design. I'm enjoying these challenges just because I enjoy any reason to craft, but it's even more fun when you win something...and I did! My previous entry won Top Spot so I'm stoked! If you'd like to enter, click the link above, or the Ink It Pink Challenge button on the sidebar.

All righty, let's move on to the card.

I used one of Pink By Design's newest stamp sets called Attitude for both sentiments....

...and the Hoot 'n Holler Cricut cartridge for my design.

Add jute twine, sheer bow and a button and it's a done deal! Hope you like. Thanks for lookin'!

Product List:
Pink By Design Attitude stamp set
Hoot 'n Holler cricut cartridge
PTI banner die
QK label die

Various pattern paper scraps

School is cool!

The kids go back to school on Tuesday. I put together a box of fun school-ish goodies to send to the grands. Mostly stuff that is 'extra' that moms with lots of kids {i.e. daughter Sally, who has 4 of her own plus a stepdaughter} can't always afford to get with all the other must-haves. I enclosed a card in each box.

Adorable jumping rope girl by Peachy Keen Stamps. All paper pieced, I might add. :)

I used My Creative Time stamps to make my own sentiment

Peachy Keen school bus stamp

Stickles for lights and glossy accents on the windshield and headlights

My Creative Time and Peachy Keen stamps to make my own sentiment

Scented markers, mechanical pencils, fine sharpies, bookmarks, and a squiggly straw and a kool aid singles....oh yes, and I included mustaches for the straws! :)

Also included is a "pencil" filled with candy. I can't show you the whole pencil yet as it's part of my DT project this week. Sneaky, I know, sorry! ;) Be sure to come back Thursday to see the whole thing. It's stinkin cute if I do say so myself.

Hope you're enjoying your long weekend. Thanks for checking in today!
