Scrapping The Little Things

Sadly, today's "little thing" isn't so little anymore! Grandgirl, Olivia, turned 12 this summer and she's growing up to be such a gorgeous young lady. The layout is a 12x12 though it could also be done in 8.5x11 format. All that you are not seeing is merely white space; freed up real estate, if you will. ;) My background paper looks gray in the photos but it is actually a creamy color, from the DCWV, Le Creme 12x12 paper stack.

What a doll - tag card

I got one of the Prima Mixed Media Dolls stamps and couldn't wait to play. I altered her just a teensy bit by eliminating the pockets on her dress for this one. I love the size and she makes the perfect addition to this extra large tag card.

I used cinnamon stickles to add sparkle to her dress and matching headband, and copic markers for coloring.

The large tag itself and the small sentiment tag are My Creative Time dies, and the sentiment is from the Piles of Smiles stamp set, also by My Creative Time. Pattern papers from My Mind's Eye, Lost and Found Halloween 6x6 paper pad. It stands alone with the Tim Holtz small easel I adhered to the back.

Thrifty Thursday time

Welcome to Thrifty Thursday, or as I like to call it, Friday-Eve! ;) Today is the day we create new from leftovers, scraps, and/or recyclables. Something I truly love doing. This is what I made for today. Halloween trick or treat bags.....don't panic, these are NO-SEW bags! These used to be tee shirts that were in the Goodwill pile. Super simple and really cute!

But, as you know, I couldn't just make the bag; I had to make flowers to adorn it. These black rolled flowers and leaves are from the leftover pieces from the black bag. So pretty!!

The tags, aren't they adorable!?, are made from My Creative Time, Vintage label and Just Tags dies, embellished with the Spooky ghost die and Fun Alphabet letters. Sentiment, spider and flourishes are from the Fright Night stamp set.

Face stamps are by Peachy Keen from the Make a Monster Face Assortment. This sentiment is from the Spooky Starry Night stamp set.

3D Wednesday - another $ store paint project!

It's another 3D Wednesday at My Creative Time and more painted dollar store crafts as well! I've been having such a blast making stuff. I should really plan a party now that I have all the makings! Haha. Anyway, here are all the goodies I made for today's assignment.

Wicked Cocktail tag -- I think I need to put this on a drink straw, don't you?

And another creepy martini...with an eyeball! Can you see it? I used a glass pebble and sharpies to draw the eye and veins on it.

Fun kool-aid singles packs in coin envelopes. These were fun to decorate with Emma's stamps and dies. I think the kidlets will like them.

And the edge decor and coaster for my divided tray. Skeleton washi tape holds up the doily die scalloped edge. I cut each of the doilies in half and removed the center, then as you do in sewing to stitch a curved seam, made slits at each scallop so the piece would straighten to go around the dish. For this size dish it took just 3 doilies.

And the pedestal dish I made, again using dollar store glassware; the divided glass dish and a candlestick painted with Krylon spray paint in Bauhaus Gold, I think is the color name; as well as the tray from yesterday's post. My dish  turned out pretty and will work for my fall table and Thanksgiving dinner too, I think...minus the skull and spider, of course. ;)

Inspire Me Tuesday

Today's inspiration comes from my local dollar store. I LOVE the dollar store for creating fun pieces that look so much more expensive than their combined pieces!  I think we have all seen dollar deals before and that's what inspired me to create this fun project.

These trays in oval, round, and rectangle shapes, are always plentiful at my dollar store. I've looked at them for years wondering, "what fun crafts can I make with these guys??"

Then it hit me....I paint everything else, why not paint the tray!? So I set to work. Only this time, I used acrylic paints. I started by sanding the heck out of it with super coarse sandpaper. From here any directions of precisely how I got this exact look gets a little murky as I worked as I went not knowing how each step would turn out. How I achieved the final look is honestly hit and miss, trial and error. I didn't take pics along the way either, as I was basically flying by the seat of my pants. However, it was fun to play with different mediums, colors, and techniques as the project progressed, so I would suggest just grabbing your materials and jumping in. You might get a totally different look that is more amazing than my finished tray. Note: I did only the top; the back of the tray is still shiny silver.

Ok, so I started with the coarse sandpaper and sanded like a mad crafter. Then I literally poured out about half a bottle of acrylic paint and spread it over with a foam brush, being sure to get all the details around the edge filled with paint. It dries pretty quickly, but you can also help it a bit with a heat gun if you get impatient or to be sure the textured edge is dried. Then I inked around the edges with walnut stain Distress Ink, using a foam applicator. I then took a soft rag (a piece of tee shirt) and gently rubbed the edge. I didn't want to remove the ink, just soften the look so it seemed aged. I liked how that looked, so I also added ink to the center of the tray in a circular motion, then rubbed that to make it look old and "dirty-ish" too. It looks awesome!!! But now what do I do to keep the paint from peeling off the metal? The sanding helped the paint stick some, but it IS metal still, so I knew it would scratch off easily.....hmmm......but of course! MOD PODGE! For my tray I used matte finish mod podge. I didn't want it too look too shiny and new, and the matte was perfect.

It's fun to use as a prop with my other Halloween projects. Also this cute little glass of bubbling purple potion was a thrift store find for ten cents! Isn't it cute? Here it is with this tag I made using My Creative Time, Just Tags and the coaster using the MCT doily die.....

Looks pretty cool, huh! I love how it turned out. It would be fab to make several in different shapes to use on the buffet table or Candy Bar at a Halloween party. Or to hold your watch or jewelry on your dresser for that matter. I hope you like my project today and will be inspired to create awesomeness from a thrift store or dollar store find. :)

Designer Challenge, BIRTHDAY THEME

It's time for the new Designer Challenge and this time Cindy B is up! Cindy has challenged us to make a BIRTHDAY THEME project. I scrapped a birthday layout for my challenge project. This is my adorable niece, Brielle aka Baby B aka Bri. :) Also, if anyone is interested in my display stand, I do still sell these.  Here's a little closer look at the main part of the layout.

The title area. I used My Mind's Eye, Love Me, for this page. I love the pretty pinks and sweet hearts and patterns. Worked perfectly here.

Check out these teensy little cherries!! I used twine for the stems and leaf, and the 'cherries' are actually glass pebbles. Sweeeeet!

Hexies, labels, arrow, circle, index tab and butterflies make this cute border-ish looking thing.

3D Wednesday - Halloween Wreath

Okay, I'm in full blown Halloween mode and I can't stop! I hope you don't mind. :) For today's 3D project, I have made a wreath for the back entrance. The black and purple tulle wreath I made last year will be on the front door, but I wanted a smaller one for the back, so here it is.

Super simple and took only a short time to complete. This is a small grapevine wreath that I spray painted in black. Or you can take add more embellishments and take as long as you want to.

These paper flowers are made from dies the sparkly spider, which isn't that easy to see but he's there, was from the dollar store.  I added a bright orange ribbon and a touch of black tulle to finish mine off.

The label is My Creative Time, curly label and stitched curly label dies with sentiments from the Fright Night stamp set.

It's time for Tag it Tuesday, crafty friends!

Good morning and welcome! Today I am sharing a multi-media project for Tag it Tuesday. I had so much fun with this. I've had a never-ending love affair with paint, specifically spray paint, and dollar store items forever and it really comes in handy when the holidays roll around. These awesome candy dishes, for example, are actually glass candle sticks and floral arranging bowls--buck apiece! In fact, everything you see here is from the dollar store, except for the tags and banner I made for today's assignment. -- yep...the raven, skull, spider, gourds and netting...all came from the dollar store. Oh and even the tray, but that's a project for another day. ;)

On this one, I used the spooky ghost die, slider treat box, and chocolate greetings dies. The sentiment is from the All Around Halloween stamp set.

For this label, I used the vintage label and banner die set and the awesome witch stamp from Fright Night. Love!

Here you see the ADORABLE dishes (can you tell I love how they turned out??? Totally!!!), sans candy, with the sweet little wooden scoops inside. The "antique" tray I mentioned earlier.... used to be silver. Watch for a separate post on this project coming soon.

I hope you enjoyed my fun project today. I sure did! And hubs loves it because, well, candy! ;)

Scrapping The Little Things

It's that time again....no, I don't mean Monday, even though it is. I mean it's time for scrapbook, smash book, and project life pages with My Creative Time. Hopefully that will take away some of the sting of Monday. ;) Scrapbooking is my first love! ♥

Today I'm super excited to share this page with you! Not only do I have tons of MCT products featured, but also the newest Peachy Keen release, suggested by YOURS TRULY who WON the ENTIRE STAMP SET! Go me!!!! I just love everything Kathy designed. This photo of my silly Grace was taken days before I won the contest, and I couldn't be happier to have it to scrap with this Peachy release!!!
