Abracadabra!

and alakazzzzam! Look what I made! Magic wands!! I love these guys. Inspired by pinterest, I decided the grands, who are all enamored of Harry Potter, would appreciate a little token of handmade wizardy and made them each a wand of magic. :)

This is how they started:

Add hot glue and decorate with beads if desired.

Let cool completely - doesn't take all that long. Add paint. I used browns then lightly brushed gold on them so they look oldish. Seal with mod podge if you want to. I don't know if it's necessary, but I did.

Add ribbon if you want to. I thought they would be more fun to swish magic around if the ribbons were swishing too. :) I made 8 of them (the pics are not the same four).

Voila! Magic wands, Harry Potter style. Sorta. Well, maybe. Ok I've never seen Harry Potter or even read the books so I wouldn't know if they are or not! LOL But hey.....MAGIC! :)

Designer Challenge, My Creative Time

I had something completely different than this in mind when I tried to plan my project for today. Now, truth be told, I very very rarely "plan" any of my projects and even if I try they never turn out as "planned"....I'm a "seat of my pants" kind of crafter. LOL What happened is, I picked out some super cute ribbon with these colors in it with every intention of using it. Uhhh. Fast fwd to "the planned project". My ribbon never made it past the checkout!! I checked every bag and then went through my receipt.....she didn't even scan it! I told you it was cute....bet she kept it for herself! hahaha!! Therefore, no cute ribbon on my card today. But I WILL get that ribbon next time I'm at the store again. Sheesh.

So, be that as it may, here is my card. I love these paper colors. These are from October Afternoon, 8x8 paper pad, Witch Hazel.

Attached with foam tape for dimension. I ♥ foam tape!

Pumpkin also on foam tape, wire added between layers cuz that's how I roll. Button and twine embellishment.

3D Wednesday

Guess what day it is.....guess what day it is! That's right, it's 3D Wednesday with My Creative Time!!! Oh yeah. And hump day. LOL ;)

Simple and adorable Halloween treat boxes for the grands. :) I used the Happy Hauntings Cricut cartridge for the cute little coffin shaped boxes.

Because I wasn't thinking far enough ahead, I had to cut out the ghosts by hand (the boxes had already been put together) but it worked out great. I traced around the MCT ghost die and it worked great. I added googly eyes to the window, used the Just Simply Live letter stamps for "RIP" and the Happy Fright Night stamp set for the spiders and all the tag sentiments. Love how they turned out, and I'm sure the kidlets will love them too. Of course, the candy inside will help! Haha.

I know school just started (in my neck of the woods I mean just as in, yesterday was the first day of school around here!) but Halloween will be here before you know it, so it's not too early to start thinking about treats and scary stuff. ;) Thanks for coming by!

Those two would fish every single day from sunup to sundown if they were independently wealthy and didn't need to go to work to pay for the fishing trips!! LOL

Wickedly scary makeover!

So I've been wanting to do this for a couple of years and finally I actually did it. I LOVE how this project turned out!! I was so excited to get them done I completely forgot to take before pictures. Sigh. They were actually pretty nondescript, but if I were to do this again I would have chosen books with a little more wear. I picked up all three books at the thrift store on 50% off everything in the store day, for a grand total of 75¢ -- what a bonus!!!!!

Before covering the books, I sanded all around the edges of the cover to make them look more worn. I then used my Tim Holtz Distress Stain, Black Soot, all around the pages (which doesn't even show in the photos - oh well). If your page edges are already a dark color, you wouldn't need to do this step. Then I covered them using a 12x12 Halloween paper pad I've had for several years, Halloween Scary Sparkles by My Mind's Eye. Again, I sanded all the edges, and this time inked them using walnut stain distress ink so they look used and dirty.

I decided on what titles I wanted to use, designed them with fun fonts in word, and printed them onto binding strips cut to size for each book. If I had been thinking a little farther ahead, I would have printed them directly onto the separate piece that goes around the binding when doing the cover, but I got ahead of myself.

After I printed the titles, I dirtied them up with ink before applying to the book. Then I made labels in matching fonts for the fronts of the books. I couldn't decide which I liked best, so I'll just post all three of them so you can see for yourself.

 I LOVE the Spellbinders label dies for the titles.

 This just might be my favorite but I love them all!!
