Today's project is a kissing ball! Now, if you have plenty of time to play and you're all ready for the big day {nothing personal if you aren't LOL}, this one takes a little time to make but it's oh, so pretty and worth every minute, in my opinion. I made all the little roses by hand, which takes a lot of time, but you can use purchased flowers if you prefer. Here is my finished product.
You will need:
styrofoam ball about 2 1/4 inches
You will need:
styrofoam ball about 2 1/4 inches
hot glue gun
60-70 small paper roses
straight pins
Glossy Accents or similar
beads
foliage {plastic, paper, silk, whatever you choose}
ribbon or string for hanging
and a tag, if you choose to add one
{I forgot to get pics of the 'in progess' but it's pretty self explanatory so hopefully you'll be able to follow pretty easily should you decide to try this yourself.}
Instructions:
1. Using the hot glue gun, adhere each flower to the styrofoam ball placing them close together. When you have finished covering the whole thing, set it aside.
2. Put beads {one each} on a bunch of pins and add a dab of Glossy Accents at the top so the bead adheres to the pin {as high as it will go at the top}. Just do a bunch, and if you need more, do more later. Let these dry.
3. If you see any gaps between the roses, add a bead or two or three. This is all random, so don't worry if you use 1 in one spot and 2 in another. It doesn't matter.
4. Now that you have filled all the gaps, set the ball aside and make your tag.
5. Choose the leaves and/or beads you want to use for your "mistletoe" and adhere to the bottom of the ball with pins or hot glue. Punch a hole in the tag and stick a stem through it, or a beaded pin and stick it in with the foliage.
6. For the hanger, I used a pin with an open head and ran the ribbon through, then added glossy accents to the pin before sticking it into the styrofoam. If you don't have an open head pin, you can make one by using small gauge wire, making a very small loop in the end and running your ribbon through. Cut the wire about 2-2 1/2 inches long.
If I've missed something or left out a crucial part, please feel free to email me or leave a comment and I'll clarify. :)
A little closer view of the end result.
and the view of the underside as you would see it standing below {before you close your eyes for the kiss, that is}.
I truly love the kissing ball and it turned out so nice, I think. But if you don't want to spend the time, or don't have the time to spend on a fancy one, here is a much simpler styrofoam ball ornament. Simple to do, doesn't take long really, and you can be as fancy or simple as you like. For this one, I didn't go with a color scheme at all, I just used random buttons from my stash. I think these ornaments would be awesome done all in one color. That's something I might have to consider for next year!! Anyway, here you go. :)
