MFT Color Challenge 233

For this color challenge, I ended up using just two of the four colors in the palette. I couldn't make the orange and yellow fit with the images I chose to use for this birthday card, but I'm happy with the way the two colors work together. 

I added these adorable balloons and banners from Heidi Swapp to finish the party feel of the birthday message using Distress Oxide ink colors kitsch flamingo and salvaged patina. 

This stamp set is MFT The Micest Thing. They are so sweet. 

For the images, I used copic colors that coordinate with the MFT ink colors, BG32, RV09.

Birthday dude

All the grands are big kids now, we don't have babies anymore and it's kind of sad. However, they have all grown into wonderful and amazing young adults and we couldn't be more proud of them. This is for the middle grandson (we have 3; and 5 girls). 

These jumbo tag cards are so much fun to create. I hope he likes it. 

Distress oxide colors I used for this one are Chipped Sapphire, Peeled Paint, and Rusty Hinge.

Lots of fun elements here; balloons, banners, confetti, washi and more.

I love using large alphabets and numbers. These aren't even my largest!

The new Heidi Swapp Stamp Society set is all about texture. I used five of the twelve texture stamps on this jumbo tag. They made a great background, don't you think. My color choices for this one are Distress Oxide Antique Linen, Iced Spruce and Spiced Marmalade. 

The grid, ledger, stripes and floral patterns are all on the textures stamp set. So very versatile, there is something for every look. 

I combined the November Stamp Society large banner set with the billboard set from the February Stamp Society to create this huge sign. I added a light and two birds to the top to make it look even more like a big billboard.

Press Pause

This is one I did a couple of weeks ago. I guess I thought I had posted it, but it's not showing anywhere, so it must have been a dream. LOL Anyway, I'm needing some press pause days while spring makes up its mind - it's nice one day and then the next I'm wearing three shirts indoors! Looking so forward to when the cold decides to north where it belongs. 

In addition to the Story Update (book lover) stamp set by Heidi Swapp, I used several other stamp sets by Heidi in hopes of channeling spring. The flowers, for example, made the prettiest border in Picked Raspberry, Dried Marigold and Peeled Paint distress oxide inks.

The adorable pink acrylic flower is vintage Heidi from my stash I've had for ages and ages. 

 

I embellished my mug with this teeny anchor from the Grid Icons stamp set, in honor of my love of the water.

....and don't forget your readers. They make such cute styles these days. If you must wear them, by all means get some cute and colorful ones!

Colored the eggs today

Happy Easter Eve!

I always try to find a new and different way to color my Easter eggs every year. Sometimes I don't find something new, but most of the time I do. This year I decided to 'copy' the gorgeous eggs in the wreath I posted below and I am so happy with how they turned out! It took a bit of prep in my head though, you know how you think it all through and decide how to approach the project you have in mind. Well, it was worth the thought process and I think it's a winner. What do you think?!

First thing I want to share is to make sure your eggs are at room temperature. I had mine in the fridge and didn't wait for them to warm up - they took FOREVER to dry the first time because of the condensation. What can I say, I want it now! LOL

Chalkboard paint (I used Prima brand) is quite thick and can be thinned with water if you need to. I might not have had to do that if I had waited, but I did thin it and it was fine for a first coat. I applied it just with my hands using latex gloves, then washed them under the tap for the next coats. 

I didn't have chalk paint in the eggshell color I wanted, but I did have this acrylic paint in antique white and that turned out to be the perfect color. Again, applied with my hands in the gloves. So much easier to get a better coat after they warmed up. 

After a couple of coats of paint (the blue could have used another coat, but as I said, I'm kind of an impatient crafter, and the shells are coming off anyway so I pushed on) I added the speckles. 

I love that they turned out so well!!! 

And look how cute in the basket next to the pretend eggs in my tiered tray table decor!

Supplies:
Latex gloves
Non-toxic paints - I used chalkboard paint in Egg Blue and acrylic paint in Antique White
Ink or paint for the splatters - I used Distress Oxide refill ink in Ground Espresso
Brush for applying the splatter - I used an old toothbrush, but will use an actual splatter brush next time
Prepare your surface - I covered my worktop with parchment paper and it worked great
